Professional Youth Theatre of Michigan is thrilled to announce auditions for Hadestown Teen Edition — an epic retelling of love, hope, and the power of music.
This bold, imaginative production will feature talented teens from across the region in a fully staged performance at the Riverside Arts Center March 20–22, 2026.
When: 📅 December 19th
🕕 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Group Audition — everyone attends the full time)
📍 PYTMI Studio, 328 Harriet St., Ypsilanti
All auditionees will attend the full audition from 6–9 PM.
Prepare:
30–60 seconds of a musical theatre song that shows off your voice and storytelling ability. Please bring your backing track or a YouTube link that we can play for you — no a cappella auditions, please. We will have a Bluetooth speaker available to connect and play music.
In addition to your song, all auditionees will also participate in cold readings from the script.
*Eligibility: Students in grades 6–12 will be eligible for casting.
If necessary, cuts will be made based on audition turnout and casting needs.
All casting decisions will be made after everyone has been seen on the 19th.
If callbacks are needed, they will be held Monday, December 22 from 6–9 PM at the PYTMI Studio.

Instruments may include:

*Attendance at all scheduled rehearsals will be required once the show is cast. A conflict calender is included in your audition sign up. Please be VERY detailed with your conflicts.

Participation Fee is $300 per actor*

Q: Do I need to sign up for a specific time?
No. Everyone arrives at 6 PM and stays until 9 PM for a group audition experience.
Q: What should I prepare?
Bring 30–60 seconds of a musical theatre song that highlights your vocal range and acting ability. Choose something you love to perform! Please bring a backing track (no live accompanist). Cold readings from the script will follow.
Q: Can I audition if I’ve never done a PYTMI show before?
Absolutely! All 6th–12th grade students are welcome to audition, whether you’re a returning PYTMI performer or brand new to the stage.
Q: What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can move in — we’ll be doing some simple movement and acting work.
Q: How will casting be decided?
Casting will be finalized after all auditions on December 19. If we need to see anyone again, callbacks will be held Monday December 22 from 6–9 PM.
Q: When and where are rehearsals?
Rehearsals will run Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6–9 PM at the PYTMI Studio, 328 Harriet St., Ypsilanti.
Q: When are the performances?

Students in grades K–6 are invited to audition for Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Kids!
🐶 All actors who audition will be considered for casting based on the number of auditions received.
Prepare 30–60 seconds of a musical theatre song that shows off your voice and storytelling ability.
Please bring a backing track or YouTube link (no a cappella auditions, please); a Bluetooth speaker will be available for playback.
You will also be asked to upload a headshot and résumé (if you have one) to your audition form on the day of auditions — a current photo is perfectly fine, and you may include any information about previous performance experience.
If you have any conflicts with the rehearsal schedule, please bring those dates with you to auditions.
Each performer must sign up for a time slot between 5:00–8:30 PM on either December 17 or 18.
Auditions will be held in pairs (2 people per time slot).
Actors will perform their prepared song and then act out readings from the script with their timeslot partner.
No Callbacks will be needed!

Character Breakdown
Roger: A kind, soft-spoken composer and owner of Pongo and Perdita. Calm, confident, and a gentle leader — the opposite of Cruella’s chaos.
Looking for: strong actor/singer/mover with an adult presence
Anita: Roger’s warm, nurturing wife. She has a gentle personality and stands in contrast to Cruella.
Looking for: strong actor comfortable playing an adult
Perdita & Pongo: Parents of the puppies. Their personalities mirror Roger and Anita — calm, loving, and mature. No solo singing.
Looking for: strong actors with a mature presence
Cruella De Vil: The bold, dramatic villain with a flair for fashion…and puppy fur. Big personality, high energy, and total stage presence.
Looking for: strong singer/actor with confidence, comedic timing, and big movement choices
Horace & Jasper: Cruella’s comedic henchmen. They bumble, argue, and provide a lot of physical comedy.
Looking for: actors with great comedic timing; accents optional
Nanny: The outspoken but kind housekeeper.
Looking for: strong speaking voice; no singing
Dog Narrators: (Boxer, Scottie, Poodle, Corgi)
Narrators who help tell the story and guide the audience.
Looking for: excellent diction and projection
Lucky, Patch, Penny & Pepper: Four energetic, funny pups with personality.
Looking for: strong young actors comfortable using their bodies to portray puppies
Freckles & Spotty: Two pups stolen by Cruella; each has one spoken solo line.
Police Officer: Arrests the villains at the end.
Looking for: confident presence; strong speaker
Sergeant Tibbs: The military-style cat who leads the rescue mission.
Looking for: strong vocalist and confident speaker with an authoritative vibe
Other Puppies: Additional kidnapped Dalmatian pups who appear halfway through the show. May double as Dogs of London.
Dogs of London: Boxers, Scotties, Poodles, and Corgis who help save the day.
Looking for: ensemble members with strong movement choices and dog-like physicality; some solo singing may be assigned
Dogcatcher: Makes a dramatic final entrance to remove Cruella.
Looking for: someone who enjoys physical comedy

Q. Do all students get a role?
A. YES! Every actor who auditions will be considered for casting. We anticipate being able to include everyone who auditions, but final casting will depend on the total number of participants.
Q. Do I need to attend both audition days?
A. No — you’ll only attend your scheduled time slot on one day.
Q. Will my child audition alone?
A. No — auditions are done in pairs, so each actor will read and perform with another student.
Q. What if my child is new to theatre?
A. That’s great! 101 Dalmatians Kids is a fun and supportive way to start. We’ll guide everyone through the process and make sure they feel confident.
Q. What should we bring?
A. Your song backing track (on a phone or device or in your brain so we can find it on youtube), water bottle, and your best smile!
Q. When will the cast list be posted?
A. Casting decisions will be finalized after auditions, and families will receive an email later that week.
